For over 40 years the show and sports arena in Katowice hosted not only concerts and sports competitions but also opera performances, circus displays, ice shows, fairs and exhibitions. The venue has received dozens of millions of visitors and is currently the most famous landmark and an iconic structure in the capital of Upper Silesia.
The Spodek Arena was being constructed from 1964 to 1971. Upon completion it was the most modern show and sports venue in Poland, and in the following years it was modernised a few times to bring it to contemporary appearance.
New lighting has been installed in the arena, a giant LED display has been hung below the roof and the seating capacity has increased to 11,000. As a result, Katowice can now host the most important sports and cultural events in Poland.
